Expirova keeps track of dates that cost you money when you miss them: warranties running out, insurance renewing, a registration lapsing, a contract due for review.

My own product, built in React Native with Expo and published on Google Play.

The actual problem

Everyone already owns a calendar, so a date-tracking app has to justify itself.

A calendar reminds you on the day. For an expiry, the day is already too late — a warranty ending today cannot be claimed on tomorrow, and an insurance renewal you find out about on the morning leaves no time to compare prices. Being told at the moment it happens is close to useless.

So reminders are the feature, not the list:

  • Several reminders per item, not one. A month out to plan, a week out to act, the day before as a catch.
  • You choose the time of day they arrive, so they land when you can do something rather than at midnight.
  • The notification opens the item directly, so acting on it does not mean hunting through the app.

The rest of it

  • Templates for common things, so adding an item is not a blank form
  • A home view ordered by urgency rather than by entry date
  • An agenda showing what is coming, chronologically
  • Search, filter and sort once the list grows
  • Items resolved and kept, rather than deleted, so there is a history

Why React Native and Expo

One codebase, and scheduled local notifications that work without a server behind them. Nothing in this app needs an account or a backend — the data is personal and belongs on the device, which also means there is no database of other people’s expiry dates to look after.
